Second man charged with assaulting Prof Chris Whitty

A second man has been charged with common assault after England’s chief medical officer Prof Chris Whitty was recently accosted in St James’s Park, central London.

Jonathan Chew, 24, from Chelmsford, Essex, was charged on Monday over the incident, which took place on 27 June.

Officers reviews the video footage that emerged on social media after speaking Whitty, a Met Police spokesman said.

Chew was also charged with obstructing police and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court yesterday afternoon.

Estate agent Lewis Hughes, 23, of Wigton Way in Romford, east London, was charged with common assault last week.

Lewis told The Sun: “There was no malicious intent, I didn’t want to upset him.”

“He is quite a timid, shy person and I think that is why he didn’t say, ‘Get off me’. If he had said that and I had realised how he felt, I wouldn’t have put my arm round him.

“I absolutely apologise for any upset I caused,” he added. “If I made him feel uncomfortable, which it does look like I did, then I am sorry to him for that.

“I put my arm around him but he started moving away so my arm ended up going around his neck more.”

Great to hear of some ‘Justice’   which is sadly lacking in our society.
