Estate agent charged with common assault after Chris Whitty incident

Lewis Hughes, who was this week sacked from his job as a negotiator at Caplen Estates in Essex, has reportedly been charged with common assault after England’s chief medical officer Prof Chris Whitty was accosted in a park in central London.

The BBC report that Hughes, of Wigton Way in Romford, east London, was charged yesterday over the incident, which took place on Sunday, the Met Police said.

He was charged by postal requisition and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 30 July.

“At approximately 19:20hrs on Sunday, 27 June officers in St James’s Park became aware of a man being accosted by a group of men,” the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

“Officers subsequently reviewed video footage which emerged after the incident and the matter was referred to the Public Order Crime Team. Enquiries continue.”

They were obviously drunk and behaved inappropriately. If they behaved like that to me I would be pretrified.

Not sure the agent should be sacked, but a good dressing down is in order with a warning if he misbehaves drunk or sober ever again he will lose his job. As for his employment contract he may not have worked for the company for more than 2 years in which case he can be fired. It may be that the Company have decided that as they can remove him at this stage – it is a good move to ensure that they maintain their reputation and show that they will not tolerade poor behaviour from their staff.

He has been called out and vilified by the public and press – it may be enough of a lesson, but if he were to do it again I would throw the book at him.

Most agents will not tolerate violent or aggressive behaviour by their staff, regardless of their length of service.

A violent or aggressive neg is completely unemployable. He can go and flip burgers for the rest of his life where he is only a danger to himself, a lettuce leaf or a slice of gherkin.

Well. what you have to look at is this : If these two had jumped a woman for a selfie, they would have been arrested on the spot and hauled off for a “me too” style offence. Equality should have meant they were hauled off on the night but sadly the police at the time took a softer view which in my opinion was terribly wrong. Good riddance to and rubbish. And as for his friend ….. that one should be charged too, he is switched on enough to go to a freedom rally he is switched on enough to learn that you must not curtail someone else’s freedom ! Charge him too !
