Is Facebook an effective way to sell your home?

Interesting piece if you haven’t seen it, about a couple who sold their home on Facebook.

They were thinking of selling, and responded to a post on their local neighbourhood forum which asked if anyone was thinking of selling.

In fact, the post created more interest, and they ended up selling to another purchaser – all without the help of Rightmove, Zoopla or even an estate agent

Tellingly, however, they had been in preliminary contact with a local agent who had quoted 2% commission – which doesn’t quite ring true for a £366,000 house in Northampton (unless agents there know different).

And no doubt the agent they had originally approached had advised them of the valuation.

However, that said, you can sort of see how this could work in local neighbourhoods with their own forums.

All the same, it would take a brave set of buyers and sellers to do their own deal and see it through. And a very braver seller who could actually be sure they really had “saved” £8,784 on the transaction when they might have a sneaking suspicion that a local agent charging 1.5% may have got them another £15,000.

Still, food for thought.

Good to see that property can change hands WITHOUT RM/Z !

Whatever happened to that chap who was going to give us a Facebook version of RM? I think it was called Property Place or Network, or something like that…
