Agent cycles 2,500 miles to raise money for charity (and burn off his Christmas dinner)

A Fine & Country estate agent has overcome more than just hills and potholes to raise money for charity.

Richard Meyerowitz, a client consultant from Fine & Country Bury St Edmunds, cycled 2,500 miles to raise money for the agent’s charitable foundation.

His fundraising campaign included a series of 50-100 mile rides that began last July but had to be put on hold just as he had got over halfway to his target in November after he went down with flu.

He had reached 1,816 miles in November but then had to stop due to his illness and made up the remaining miles over the festive period, which he says at least helped him burn off his Christmas dinner.

He raised £320 for The Fine & Country Foundation, which goes towards grants of up to £3,000 that homeless charities can apply for during March 2019.

Richard said: “My first feeling when I completed the challenge was relief. The final 400 miles were a struggle, especially as the temperature began to drop.

“Admittedly, cycling 260 miles between Christmas and New Year was not how I envisaged this challenge ending, but my motivation was steady in the knowledge that I am raising money for the homeless.”

Charlotte Schofield, coordinator for the Fine & Country Foundation, said: “In 2018, the Fine & Country Foundation gave more than £100,000 to homeless charities from its grant programme.

“This wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Fine & Country network who continue to come up with new and innovative ways to raise money and awareness for homelessness.”
