RICS crisis – Sean Tompkins looks set to quit as CEO

Sean Tompkins

Sean Tompkins, CEO of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), is expected to step down today following a governance scandal that has adversely affected the organisation.

Property Week reports that Tompkins is in advanced discussions to resign this morning. His reputation has taken a knock following the governance scandal as well as a dispute over a bonus.

The move comes ahead of a virtual press conference today into the findings of an independent report commission by RICS in January last year in response to a scandal which broke out over allegations a report criticising the group’s governance had been suppressed.

The conference will be led by Nick Maclean, chair of Governing Council steering group for the review, and Alison Levitt QC, the author of the report.

Tompkins will be the latest high-profile person to leave RICS in recent months.

A RICS spokesperson said: “The Governing Council of RICS will be publishing the independent review conducted by Alison Levitt QC at noon on Thursday September 9th. We will be holding a press conference at that time, to be addressed by Nick Maclean, Chair of the Governing Council’s steering committee for the review, and Alison Levitt QC, which can also be viewed by members and RICS employees. We will be not commenting further until then”.

Who shot JR Ewing? It certainly looks like there are going to be some casualties after midday today once this report has been released and press conference has taken place.

it will make interesting reading by the looks of things.

Another respected body and qualification in the dirt.

I feel for all the hard working professionals.

The RICS give no quarter if you don’t meet their ‘high standards. Oh the irony.

SoldPal90:  I think respect for RICS went out of the window many years ago, and much of the exodus is directly attributable to one person…

The old guard looking after agency needs a good shake up and clear out for sure……

I can’t remember the last time any sensible relevant training for agency professionals was delivered …… inwardly looking and old fashioned to its core….

It once professed a desire to become an over-arching property professionals powerhouse – little chance of that any time soon.

Some good points but many irrelevant too…..
