Regional estate agency eyes growth and acquisitions after recent buying spree

Henry Adams is eyeing further growth and making more acquisitions after purchasing three letting companies in the last year and taking a former franchised office into the main partnership.

The south coast estate agency, which last week acquired the sales and lettings portfolios of Harris, Parkes & Drake, a well-respected agency in Rowlands Castle, Hampshire, recorded the highest-ever revenue, turnover and profit in the financial year.
The estate agency, which has been trading for 32 years, has multiple specialist teams – including residential sales & lettings, new homes, development land, rural & equine, RICS valuations, holiday cottages and a fine art auction house in Chichester.

Gareth Overton, partner and head of residential sales, said: “After a booming couple of years for the housing market, it’s good to see that all the hard work of our teams has paid off in terms of our financial results. Equally as important though is the fact that we achieved the highest award from the review site, Feefo, for outstanding customer service.”

Henry Adams is primarily a partnership, with most of the sales branches operated and run by a hands-on partner of the organisation.

The company’s Midhurst branch was formerly a single-office enterprise which joined the brand under a franchise agreement in 2014 and became a full member of the Henry Adams partnership in 2021.

Overton explained, “Originally we were approached by the owners, who’ve since become partners of Henry Adams. They wanted more power to their marketing elbow, and strong business & IT support. With a brand like Henry Adams behind you, as well as our investment in CRM, training and targeted marketing, it’s a powerful boost whatever the market is up to. We’re delighted to welcome the Midhurst team into the partnership and the office is doing extremely well.

“Looking ahead, we are aiming to grow the company over the coming months through organic growth and careful acquisition where values & reputation align with our own and our overall coverage for customers will be enhanced.

“We’re also open to talking to experienced estate agents, perhaps with a single high street office or looking to open one, who may be interested in a Henry Adams franchise arrangement. It’s not a major part of our business currently but we’re open-minded about ways to strengthen and expand our operation, particularly in territories on the fringes of our existing network of offices in West Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire.”

Overton says that anyone interested in discussing franchise or acquisition options should contact him in complete confidence.
