Property sale registrations fell by a third in March – Land Registry

The latest figures on residential sales registrations have revealed just how far the market has fallen since the early days of the coronavirus outbreak.

Land Registry Price Paid Data for March shows it received 50,869 registrations for residential sales last month.

This was down 30% on a monthly basis and declined 11.4% annually.

There is a delay between a sale taking place and when it is registered so some of these transactions will have completed at least two months ago but it does suggest there is a lot less going across the desks of conveyancers from agents.

Of the sales received for registration, the Land Registry said 5,514 took place in March 2020.

The comparative figure for 2019 was 28,871.

The most expensive residential property sold was in Kensington and Chelsea for £4.5m during the month and the cheapest was in Hartlepool for £20,000.
