Stephen Brown

An estate agency-backed campaign has earned BBC recognition after raising more than £166,000 to provide computers for schools.

Computers for Schools, founded by property industry trainer Stephen Brown, received a highly commended award in the fundraising category.

The campaign has raised £166,300 and supplied 1,588 computers to schools across the UK.

Brown, who runs Stephen J Brown Consultancy, praised the property industry’s support.

“Being highly commended by the BBC was a lovely surprise, but the real credit goes to everyone in this industry who has backed the campaign,” he said.

“Estate agents get a hard time in the press, yet every time I have asked for help, they have turned up and been incredibly generous.”

Property professionals contribute to fundraising book

The campaign’s next fundraising initiative is a book featuring contributions from more than 200 people, including estate agents.

Titled If I Could Tell You One Thing, the book asks contributors to share one piece of advice.

Their responses cover business, personal setbacks, family life and ambition.

Brown said: “I expected a few tips on winning instructions. What came back was far more personal. Some of these answers made me laugh and a few stopped me in my tracks. It’s a book you can dip into on a bad Monday and come away better for it.”

Damian Hughes, co-host of the High Performance Podcast, has written the afterword.

The paperback will go on sale ahead of Christmas. All profits will support Computers for Schools.

Each purchase also provides entry into a draw to win a computer for a school of the buyer’s choice.
