Dourish & Day has expanded its presence in Whitchurch with the acquisition of local rival Leo James Property.

The deal brings Leo James founder Sarah Mellor and her team into the business. It also comes ahead of Dourish & Day’s planned move to larger premises on the town’s High Street.

Mellor confirmed the sale on social media, revealing that she had decided to give up ownership but remain in estate agency.

The move will allow her to continue working with existing clients while benefiting from Dourish & Day’s sales and lettings operations.

She said: “After making the decision to step away from ownership of Leo James, I’m delighted that I won’t be stepping away from the thing I’ve always loved — helping people move home.”

Mellor also cited family commitments as a factor behind her decision.

“Stepping away from owning my own business is understandably an emotional decision, but it feels like the right time for me to take a different path and, most importantly, have a little more time for my gorgeous little boy,” she added.

High Street relocation

The acquisition coincides with Dourish & Day’s plans to move its Whitchurch branch from Green End to High Street.

The firm recently secured planning consent to convert the former Luke’s Cafe/Wine Bar into an estate agency office.

Shropshire Council approved the change of use following an application submitted by Stephen Dourish in May.

Mellor is expected to join the team at the new premises when the relocation takes place.

Existing Leo James Property customers will be contacted about the changes in the coming days.

The purchase price and other financial terms have not been disclosed.
