Christmas for a good cause? This agent has it all wrapped up

This is the time of year when so many agents do so much good for charity.

Unfortunately, and with the best will in the world, we simply can’t cover all – or even most – of your charitable deeds.

However, some stories do stand out, so step forward Anne Golesworthy, senior sales and lettings executive at Ward & Partners, part of  Arun Estates.

Last year Anne, who works in the Faversham office in Kent, decided to make a personal donation to the Operation Christmas Child shoebox appeal – run by the international relief and development organisation Samaritan’s Purse, with the idea to take an ordinary shoebox and fill it with gifts for a young child suffering hardship somewhere in the world.

By the time she told other people what she was doing, rather to her amazement she collected 59 boxes full of gifts.

This year Anne decided to tap into the power of social media to try and improve on last year’s achievement.

So, as well as doing all the organising – preparing the boxes, which were donated by Ward & Partners, writing instructions on what to put in them, and so on – she also turned to Facebook to help generate the maximum amount of interest, putting up a constant stream of posts about the progress of the appeal, from videos about the charity to news of individual contributions, along with fun comments about some of the donors.

All of this was done in her spare time. And the result – 209 boxes.

All sorts of people got involved, including friends, relatives and colleagues in Ward & Partners’ offices across the county and complete strangers who had picked up on Anne’s Facebook campaign. “We even had schoolchildren coming in with their pocket money,” she says.

Anne is pictured with shoeboxes that contain gifts for some of the world’s poorest children
