Hunters unveils estate agency qualification

Hunters has unveiled an NAEA and ARLA endorsed estate agency qualification for its own network of branches.

The Hunters National Qualification, believed to be the first of its kind within the property industry, covers sales and lettings over three levels dependent on the candidate’s role, knowledge and experience.

Divided into HNQ Award Sales and HNQ Award Lettings, HNQ Certificate Sales and HNQ Certificate Lettings, and HNQ Diploma Sales and HNQ Diploma Lettings, the new programme will look to train all members of the team from administrators through to business owners.

Training comprises a mix of teaching styles to include classroom training and e-learning, meaning that all concepts work to link the candidate’s theoretical knowledge with active participation and training in practice, making the qualification an invaluable tool.

Glynis Frew, managing director of Hunters Property Group, said: “At Hunters we have always been committed to raising standards within our industry through our bespoke training programmes, and our staff Training Academy has grown from strength to strength since it was first established in 2006.

“We are now delighted to be able to announce the launch of our very own Hunters National Qualification, which is endorsed by both the NAEA and ARLA.

“There are still far too many stories in the media about rogue estate agents. We aim to set industry standards by ensuring that all our staff are trained to their best ability, which we hope our peers will follow.”

Launched earlier this year, the Hunters National Qualification has already seen a successful candidate complete the HNQ Award Sales – Ryan Almond from Hunters in Horsforth, Leeds.

He said: “I’m really proud to have been the first person to complete one of the qualifications. It has given me much more confidence in my role as negotiator and I’m looking forward to being able to progress to the next level of training.”

His manager, Jonny Malkinson, franchise partner at Hunters Horsforth, said: “The Hunters National Qualification is great for me as a business owner.

“It aids staff development and ensures that our agents have up-to-date knowledge of important legislation and practices within the industry.

“This in turn will allow us to deliver excellent service to our customers and really helps us to stand apart from our competitors. We want to be the first branch across the Hunters network to have all our staff complete one of the new qualifications.”

    Well done Hunters!

There will always be those who shy away from professional qualifications and say that all you need is experience, but studying and taking a few exams in the market in which you are working focuses the mind and gives you a more developed mind-set. It is also a great way to help you climb the ladder if you’re young and a qualification can be used as evidence of knowledge whether it’s talking to clients to gain business or to trading standards.

At some point a minimum standard of competence will be forced on us by government and so it should be when we’re dealing with people’s most valuable asset and we have a filing cabinet full of rules and regulations to understand which did not exist a dozen years ago.
