Propertymark wants Savills to ‘take appropriate action’ over racist tweets

Propertymark is urging Savills to ‘take appropriate action’ over racist tweets allegedly posted by an employee.

Police are investigating after vile racist tweets were posted following the England loss to Italy in the Euro 2020 final on Sunday night.

The tweets were allegedly posted by an employee of Savills estate agents.

The company, based on Booth Street in Manchester city centre, issued a statement after the posts were made following the football match.

One referred to three England players and another to domestic violence in the wake of the The Lions losing.

Nathan Emerson

Savills has launched its own internal inquiry.

In a statement, Propertymark’s Nathan Emerson, said: “Racism is utterly unacceptable in any circumstances. Property agents deal with members of the public and as such have a duty to treat all parties with equal respect.

“As a body who represents agents, we never want to see an incident like this occur and such behaviour doesn’t have a place in modern society. We trust Savills to take appropriate action. ”

” the company based on Booth Street in the city centre ” For those who  are not aware which city centre this comment refers to it is actually Manchester. Investigative journalism is my true calling!

Savills carry the logo of RICS on their website – not that of Propertymark.  Whilst I am sure that Mr Emerson is doing a Sterling (see what I did there) job of putting his own organisation right following the trials and tribulations of recent times, I would suggest that this is a blatant episode of band-wagon jumping which in reality is simply pouring oil onto the fire.

It would be interesting to know if the person currently under investigation is a Member of Propertymark or RICS – and what action those organisations are, or will be, taking.

Perhaps better to put one’s own house in order rather than start throwing stones………How far have Propertymark got in implementing their EDI policy ……….? A quick search on the website would indicate that there is no EDI policy, nor equality policy nor anti racist policy, let alone any declared road-map for implementation. Something else to get your teeth into Nathan?

I do (insert ‘man shrugging’ emoji)

Presume you will now amend your comment to say “Apart from 1 person no one cares about it” ?
