Property portal takes over specialist property website aimed at disabled home buyers

Property portal TheHouseShop has taken over specialist website The Accessible Property Register.

Agents can now advertise all their accessible homes on both APR and TheHouseShop.

APR was set by husband and wife Conrad Hodgkinson and the late Christine Barton, and business partner Lindsay Yarrow in 2003 following their own difficulties in trying to find a wheelchair-accessible home.

Christine had multiple sclerosis and died in 2013, while Lindsay is also a wheelchair user.

TheHouseShop, which rebranded from The Little House Company last March, started off in life as purely a private sale by vendor website, but now carries listings from agents as well as private sellers and landlords.

APR has also allowed anyone to advertise on its site, just as long as the property meets its accessible criteria.

However, there is an argument as to whether adapted properties achieve their best prices if features such as wet rooms, lowered kitchen units and lifts remain in situ.
