Picture of the Week: Just admire that reflection!

Here’s yet another contender for Picture of the Week.

Coming at the rate they are, we are considering changing the title of the competition that no one wants to win to Picture of the Day.

This one is courtesy of Purplebricks and is the natural heir and successor to yesterday’s Curse of the Fat Finger.

Today’s offering brings back another old favourite – the Curse of the Bathroom Mirror.

Mind you, the rest of the pictures aren’t exactly a reflection of great property photos.

Oh, but hang on, here’s a second contender for Picture of the Day.

Yesterday, search engine Trovit Homes’ app appeared to have a fault, showing prices way higher than they really are by using commas instead of full stops. See the screengrab under that of the Purplebricks listing.

It may be an electronic version, but the Curse of the Fat Finger lives on.

Is it just me or would have everyone else moved the shower cap and bits off the toilet? …..also… Is that an iPhone he’s holding?

Yes…. am always dismayed that agents/photographers(?) do not think of simple “set-dressing” – indeed seem to be blind to the obvious visual turn-off….  Obviously you cannot tidy a whole home for a photo session, but, yes a quick tidying of the immediate shot is surely a good idea….  Loos with the seat left up is probably my pet hate.  Yuk…!!    [You can always wash your hands, after adjusting…]

Appalling photos. He did a decent floorplan but that’s not rocket science. It’s not with vacant possession though, apparently it has mature boarders.

Indeed….  “…mature boarders…,” “comprises of…”  … among numerous written howlers and horrors.  Good written English should be among the basic skills of estate agents…!

This sort of photography is not just this example from purple bricks but it’s the same everywhere.  We have raised standards of advertising in our area with most Estate Agents now imitating what we do.  I’d like to go on record for saying Estate Agents are not photographers, so they should stop trying to be.

We have one Estate Agent here that loves shouting about wide angle lenses and unfiltered images.  No image should be taken with a wide angle lense and all images need a slight edit. Our job is to offer a true representation that will also get people through the door.

Errr – Think you will find a wide angle lens is necessary to present a property correctly 10-20mm at least.

It does not alter the image or perception of a picture it just allows more of the picture (like a full picture of a small bathroom).

Are you getting mistaken with a “Fish eye” lens? – They are cheap imitation of a true wide angle lens that does manipulate a room.

As for un-edited images, if you have the correct aperture etc you will not need a slight edit. – However most pictures can do with a little help.

No offence sounds like the other agent is a little more clued up on photography, As you said above you are not a photographer maybe he is ……

Would you not have had a quick tidy up before taking photos, the living areas just look cluttered!!! Immediate turn off. Surely a ‘Property Professional ‘ is there to advise the client?!

How sad. They paid peanuts and didn’t even get a monkey!

This really shows the benefit of using a “Property Professional” to market your home! It doesn’t really matter to him though, he has their money whatever happens!

I had 5 mins spare and looked at this listing.

Below is a critique of the property as if one of my negs had listed it.

    Wonky Front pic

    Car on drive

    bins in shot

    Cluttered

    No internal lights on

    Poor angles

    Reflection in the mirror

Too dark (settings wrong on camera)

    used auto settings

post on door mat (since he has been there!)

easily movable objects from the shot

Room sizes just listed room not sold (people buy lifestyles)

no relevant info for buyer, council tax, rental yield potential

    No stamp duty costs.

As i keep saying these are not true full service estate agents, A true estate agent is among other things a marketter, All these guys do is relieve you of a grand and allow you a route to put your property on portals where private listers are not allowed.

Yes, I too had a look at this listing.  Oh dear…

The front “selling” shot is dreadful – the wonkiness unforgivable (so easily rectified with a quick tweak…)…  a few interior lights would have been a good idea… and yes, on the doormat-with-post image… a few coats hung on the bannister!

Perhaps this particular photographer should not be used again without some lessons in photographic basics… or how to sell a home…!!
