Labour loses latest battle on fees and ‘double charging’ by agents

Labour has once again lost its battle to have letting agent fees charged to tenants made illegal.

A second amendment – to ban estate agents from charging both buyer and seller, as in so-called Sale by Tender transactions – was also voted down.

Both amendments , to the Consumer Rights Bill, were lost in the House of Lords yesterday.

Afterwards, a tweet went out from LabourLordsUK, saying: “Peers defeat out consumer rights amendment to outlaw agents’ fees tor tenants and double charging. Well done again LibDems for aligning with Tories.”

Well done LibDems. Only thing they've got right in 4.5 years.
