It might come in very handy for those agents faced with the chaos of more tube strikes, as well as for those more rural counterparts who simply prefer to think green: An e-bike.

Newberry Tully, based in Seaford, East Sussex, already uses an electric car and low energy lights and has a policy of recycling as much as possible.

Now it is introducing an electronic bike.

With a top motor speed of 15mph, the bike will allow agents to travel to and from properties quicker than most in London can drive to theirs even when there isn’t a tube strike cluttering up the streets.

And its state-of-the-art technology means the bike will not even break down in the rain.

Company partners Andrew Tully and Stephen Newberry explained why being green is so important.

Newberry said: “We are always looking at ways in which we can lessen our agency’s impact on the environment. Both Andrew and I are fascinated by how new technology can improve the way things are done, and having the electric bike on trial is something that instantly appealed to us.”

Like all electric bikes, this one, made by Giant, has a motor powered by a battery. The bike needs to be pedalled but comes into its own when going uphill, when the motor kicks in, allowing the cyclist to coast.

The firm already has a Nissan Leaf electric car which they’ve nicknamed Sparky and will only use a traditional car if the weather is too bad for cycling and Sparky is already being used.

The environmentally friendly focus extends to solar panels which provide the office with all its electrical needs and has already proved to be a good investment for the business.

Tully added: “I have young children, so by doing all we can to lessen our impact on the environment makes me feel as if we are doing something very positive for them and future generations.”

Newberry said: “We live and work in a beautiful part of the country and doing our bit to keep it that way is very important for us.

“Our clients appreciate and understand what we are striving for and the response to our environmental efforts has been overwhelmingly positive and supportive.”

The agency has been working closely with Sustrans, a charity which promotes sustainable transport across the UK.
