Guitars, signed by music greats, up for auction – Julian O’Dell hits all the right fundraising notes

Well known industry trainer, Julian O’Dell, is a tireless and highly-effective fund raiser and ambassador for Action against Cancer.

His wife, Cat, is still fighting the disease and they are both keen to support the charity and assist them with funding to find causes and cures that will help future sufferers.

Julian and Cat have dedicated the past 5 years to hosting and running Catfest, an annual fundraiser festival. It has proved to be a huge success with 2019’s event raising £52,607 for Action Against Cancer, taking the total raised overall to over £160,000.

As well as this, his talented drawings are sought-after and many have been sold to raise more funds in recent years. EYE has been very pleased to have helped with that process on occasion.

Now there is another major fundraising effort in progress and it is time for our readers to get involved, because wonderful things – in the shape of guitars signed by lots of  seriously famous people – are up for grabs at auction.

Lulu, Suzi Quatro, Lisa Stansfield, KT Tunstall, Kim Wilde, Wendy James, Mel C & Carol Decker.

Even if you don’t play, buy one and hang it on the wall. You could even make your dining room look like the interior of a Hard Rock Cafe if you buy several.

Jools Holland plus Rick Astley, Eddi Reader, Brittany Howard, Tom Walker, Selecter, Joseph, Melanie, Yolanda Brown and Ruby Turner.

Many of the guitars are signed by multiple stars.

The original goal was to gather 100 signatures but Julian says that now they have reached 95 – including Brian May, Jason Donovan, Stereophonics, Petula Clark, Mel C, Lulu, Suzi Quatro, Ronan Keating, Lisa Stansfield  – and still going strong, the campaign is subtly changing its name from ‘100 Hitmakers Against Cancer’ to ‘100+ Hitmakers Against Cancer’.

100+ Hitmakers Against Cancer was going to be part of Catfest’s fundraising total in 2020, however the pandemic led to the event being postponed until August 2021. Sadly a decision was then taken to delay the 2021 event until 2022. Therefore, some of the signed guitars are being auctioned during 2021 with all proceeds going to the charity at a time when funds are critical.

Check out the campaign here.

And now, head over to the auction site and take a look at the latest amazing range of instruments and signatures that are on offer.

The value of these guitars is likely to only go one way in the future, so do your bit and dig deep.

    Great work by Julian.

I own seven of his drawings which adorn my mancave studio at Integra Towers.

I hope that these guitars raise a significant sum for the Action against Cancer charity which he and Cat have so ably supported.
