Estate agents and journalists beaten only by politicians to bottom of ‘trusted’ list

Here is a statistic that shows just how close the editor of EYE is to our readers: very few people trust us!

According to the latest Veracity Index from Ipsos MORI, only 25% of people trust estate agents and journalists, and together we come third from bottom among the trusted.

Only government ministers and politicians generally come below us, with a trust rating of 21%.

In comparison, builders are trusted by 42% of people, and even bankers are trusted by 37%.

The five most trusted professions are doctors (89%), teachers (86%), judges (80%), scientists (79%) and hairdressers (69%).

The clergy used to be the most trusted profession back in 1983 when the survey started. They are now in eighth place.

It does of course raise the issue as to whether you trust EYE to tell you the truth.

To which the answer is – of course we do. So you can.

But there again, that could be a lie…

Given  the percentage of the population that move home each year (3% of the housing stock each year changes ownership) perhaps MORI should seek some clarification on what basis the respondents are basing their opinions.

For that matter, how many respondents had recently had any direct dealings with a Government minister? Or, at the other end of the scale, a judge?
