Cyclists from Spicerhaart raise £70,000 for children’s charity

A group of intrepid cyclists from Spicerhaart have raised £70,000 for the Magic Moments charity, to take children from hospices across the UK to Disneyland Paris.

Nine of the 40-strong group cycled right across the country from west coast to east, covering 254 miles in three days. En route they were joined by cyclists from Cardiff to Bath (63 miles) and from Clapham Common to Colchester (74 miles), with the ride culminating at the company’s headquarters.

Magic Moments was set up by Spicerhaart over 15 years ago to take children from hospices and their families to experience the magic of Disney.

Managing director Russell Jervis, who completed the whole ride, said: “It was an incredible experience, one I’ll never forget. Day two was particularly gruelling, with ten hours in the saddle through driving rain and a head wind, covering 117 miles. But we battled through, giving us all the most amazing sense of achievement when we reached the end.”

Jonathan Martin, chairman of the trustees for Magic Moments, said: “This year, we broke all records for the funds raised and for the first time ever we will be taking two trips at different times of the year to Disneyland Paris, accommodating around 100 children and family members.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to all the cyclists who took part, all those who helped and sponsored us and to the event organisers Maximum Adventure.

“We are now turning our attention to next year’s ride. Who knows just how far our cyclists will be willing to venture next time.”

We congratulate the whole team.
