Housing regulation expert joins Savills team

Nick Atlay

Savills Affordable Housing Consultancy has welcomed experienced regulator Nick Atlay to the position of associate director.

Atlay joined the team in January after seven years at the regulator of social housing. He will play a key role in guiding governance, risk management, financial viability, and housing assurance for the consultancy’s affordable housing clients in the UK.

While at the regulator, Atlay led on In-Depth Assessments (IDAs) of housing providers and supported the delivery of planned and reactive rent regulation. Prior to that, Nick managed internal audits supporting with complex accounting advice, business case reviews, options appraisals and finance resource support for social housing and other public sector clients. He has also worked for a local authority with retained ownership of its social housing.

Kelsey Walker, Director at Savills Affordable Housing Consultancy, said: “Nick is starting at the perfect time for us as we begin to integrate our established IDA-Ready Business Reviews and Consumer Standards Reviews. He has a wealth of experience in leading IDAs, and delivering viability and rents regulation. It’s great to have another experienced regulator in the team!”

CIPFA-qualified accountant Atlay has developed his skill set and knowledge base in a series of roles, becoming increasingly specialised in the affordable housing sector. With over 14 years of experience, he makes a strong addition to sector-leading housing governance team at Savills.

Miller Homes Yorkshire appoints new regional head of operations

Miller Homes Yorkshire has appointed a new regional head of operations as its 2023 strategic growth plans get underway.

Justin Tranmere has been promoted from commercial director to operations director at Miller Homes in Wakefield and will oversee the day-to-day operational activities of the business, its team, and the delivery of its growth plan.

“It’s an exciting time to be at Miller Homes and the Yorkshire region is in a strong position, having contracted on, and purchased, a number of fantastic developments in recent months in some of the best locations in Yorkshire,” said Tranmere. “Our focus moving forward is to build upon Miller’s reputation and success in Yorkshire, where the team have consistently delivered and created well designed and thriving new communities.

“This is a legacy to be proud of, and as we continue to expand our development portfolio, I am confident that there will be strong demand for our exceptionally designed homes.”

CBRE strengthens Birmingham team

Robert Smith

CBRE has added to its Birmingham team with two new directors.

Tim Bloomer has joined the commercials agency’s operational real estate team from Lambert Smith Hampton.

In this new role, he will specialise in the hospitality, healthcare, leisure and education sectors.

Robert Smith, who started his career at CBRE in 2000, has returned to the company following a decade in Avison Young’s rating team and three years living in New Zealand.

Will Ventham, who heads the Birmingham office, commented: “Both Tim and Rob are widely respected in their fields and will help boost our growing rating and OPRE teams.”
