Charity donations through Deposit Protection Service hit £1m mark

The Deposit Protection Service (DPS) has facilitated £1m in donations to homelessness charity St Mungo’s since the partnership began at the end of 2024.

The UK’s largest protector of rental deposits said the milestone forms part of its ongoing commitment to supporting organisations tackling homelessness.

St Mungo’s provides emergency accommodation and support to people experiencing homelessness, helping them to rebuild their lives. The charity said its services supported around 26,000 people in 2025, equating to approximately 2,100 individuals each night.

Matt Trevett, managing director at The DPS, described the achievement as a significant moment for the initiative.

“We are delighted to reach the £1 million donation mark since embarking on this partnership,” he said. “St Mungo’s delivers vital support to people facing some of the toughest circumstances across London and the South of England.

“Many of our employees are also supporting the charity directly, donating time and energy to a number of local St Mungo’s initiatives.”

The donations are generated from interest accrued while the DPS safeguards tenants’ deposits. At the end of a tenancy, tenants are given the option to donate this interest to St Mungo’s.

Michael Reynolds, director of fundraising and communications at St Mungo’s, said the funding comes at a critical time.

“We are incredibly grateful to The DPS for the donations they have facilitated during the first year of our partnership and to all the tenants who have so generously chosen to donate the interest from their safeguarded deposits to St Mungo’s,” he said.

“With record numbers of people now facing or at risk of homelessness, our work has never been more urgent.”
