American self-employed estate agency model grows to more than 50 agents in UK

eXp UK, the American estate agency model that landed in this country towards the end of last year, says it now has over 50 agents.

Adam Day, who heads the UK operation, said that individuals from different backgrounds have joined, to become self-employed agents looking to grow their own businesses.

Day, whose official title is expansion leader for eXp UK, said: “We’ve brought in some fantastic estate agents and we’re really pleased so far.

“We’re really clear that we’re only allowing experienced agents to join, which I think is really important for the business going forward.

“The majority of our agents are from a corporate or independent background, so as you can see, we’re not just another online estate agency.

“We’re by no means the finished product, but that’s what’s exciting about it.

“It’s new, it’s exciting, and agents joining feel like they’re part of something.

Day, who founded online agent Hatched which was sold to Connells, said that eXp agents can create their own brands, helped by services such as technology and training.

He said: “Personal branding is becoming a much bigger thing due to social media.

“eXp agents are encouraged to go out into their local markets to become ‘the brand’ of their area, which helps them to win more instructions and to sell more property.

“It’s not going to happen overnight and we’re not going to be spending millions on huge advertising campaigns, but these are all reasons why we can give agents 70% of the commission that they generate.”

As a subsidiary of a publicly traded company, eXp also offers the agents within its ranks the opportunity to earn shares for simply selling property, and for helping with the overall growth of the company in the UK and around the world.

The company claims that it already has established market share across North America with more than 26,000 agents.

One of its features is a ‘cloud campus’ which provides access to tools and training, and also “socialisation” for its agents.

Technically a lot of these agents are employed because it’s their only job and they are also told when to go to work and what hours to work! Paying to rent a desk doesn’t make you self employed It’s a bit of a fiddle really!

      That isn’t how it works.

Why not speak to them yourself and load up on facts rather than just saying what you “suppose”?

50 pledges of interest no doubt.

Would take at least 30k to make a dent in any market in UK from a cold start.
