Property Industry Eye has learned that Gary Barker will not take up the role of CEO of the Bruce Brothers’ portal venture, Boomin.
There was widespread surprise in July when Barker announced he was leaving Reapit where he had spent over fifteen years, becoming its CEO in 2013. Earlier this year he won praise for a particularly sensitive letter to Reapit staff explaining how the company was handling the Covid crisis and furloughing.
In a statement, Michael Bruce, Executive Chairman & Founder of Boomin, told EYE:
“Gary has informed the Board that he is now unable to take-up his position as CEO owing to unforeseen personal family reasons. The entire team at Boomin wish Gary and his family all the very best at this difficult time and leave open the opportunity for Gary to work with Boomin in the future when the time is right. In the near-term I will lead the business as we build to launch.”
Gary Barker said:
“The opportunity to work on such an amazing business for our industry and with a formidable team of people was a great privilege. I personally remain a big supporter of Michael, Kenny and everyone at Boomin and will continue to be an ambassador. For now I must concentrate all of my time on my family.”
No further comment will be made on what is a personal family matter.
EYE joins Michael Bruce in wishing Gary and his family well for the future.

Very sad to read this and would like Gary to know, that everyone at VTUK sends their very best wishes, in these difficult times.

Hope Gary and family are well.
I rather hope it was a case of Gary realising what a hard task it will be with getting any agent to back a Bruce venture.
