The Russell Quirk Story – Part 1

“There’s a lot of very jealous and incapable people out there who love to see people fail.”

Love him or loathe him, there is no denying that Russell Quirk has made his mark on the property industry. His outspoken and opinionated character make him a figure to be admired or derided but there is no denying that he has not been afraid to ‘have a go’. And despite what some may think, he’s learned from his failures.

In this three part video series – an After Hours Podcast with Jonny Palmer – Quirk talks candidly about his life and career, how the got started in business, what he did right and what he did wrong;  and for the first time he reveals what really went on behind the scenes at emoov.

Whatever you may think of the man, he’s never dull and these videos are an entertaining and interesting insight into what make him tick.

We will bring you part 2 tomorrow and part 3 on Wednesday.

Where’s the evidence that “he’s learnt from his failures”?

Joining Keller Williams, when droves of agents are leaving KW for eXp, wasn’t smart. The culture there does attract those whose only interest is in how much and how quickly they can earn money from other peoples misfortune. Perhaps that’s the “world-class training” he needed?

This insensitive statement says it all on how he sees Emoov  No thought to the lost jobs investors reeled in ,small suppilers  No remorse prefers to think others are jealous of his “success”
    Oct 2019

“Estate agents all over the UK owe us all a big debt because we’ve shown that the online model doesn’t work and therefore that it’s not a threat.”

It’s clear that  Headphones somehow still sees Emoov as a success story . He boasts about the number of mentions in the press, the tech, the number of listings  as the  only  important thing is that  it got his name out there .

Everything else is  incidental. The carnage left behind for others to sort out the loss of jobs, the investors reeled in with false promises  Mere bagataelle .

Just a blip in the stellar career  of R Quirk and lets move on quickly ,change the tune

    Emoov is yesterday’s news

“WE ARE SHOWING ESTATE AGENTS THE DOOR  ” was the strapline in the sales pitch for investors money

Fast forward to 2019 it could be a new car

    Sept 2019

“Months of contemplating and reflection have led me to invest in Keller Williams as the brand and model that has the potential to be one of the biggest estate agency businesses in the UK in addition to its worldwide status” stated Quirk. ”

“Reflection ” Priceless. This is from someone who made himself  available for radio interviews at a drop  of a hat to promote himself    had already started his PR company up whilst investors recently  reeled in with  a slick snake oil salesman pitch  of false promises no doubt  honed selling motors when they   thought he was devoting his energies  saving Emoov

Nobody begrudges someone  dusting themselves down and starting again but  this
was a captain first to the lifeboats never destined to go down  with the ship

More significantly, who is Jonny Palmer and why is the PIE backing this?

Bring back Rosalind is all I can say!

PIE has drastically gone down hill since she left/retired and the standard of articles has declined.

HillofWad71,as usual, sums up the latest debacle/car crash interview perfectly!

PIE used to be the broad sheet of the digital world, now its a tabloid and going downhill fast!!

Why is PIE so obsessed with Quirk…?
    Most agents HATE him.
it’s not great journalism; perhaps the new editor can grip this?!

I posted a few weeks ago about my concerns about a number of the new portals getting too involved with the customer journey.

We should all be concerned about this trojan horse, as if they gain significant prominence switching to direct to consumer is a real possibility.

This prompted a defensive response from the chap at One Dome. Yet, in Quirk’s video above he says he was in discussion with One Dome when he owned Emoov! Why would this be? This is a major red flag.

We all need to be very careful of who we give our listings to at the moment. Many of the new portal owners seem nice and friendly but their goal is to exit at some point. The new owners may have different ideas. We need some sort of protection on this front. Otherwise, Rightmove and Zoopla may seem saints compared to some monster we create.

Not interested, have better things to do today than listen to Quirk’s PR and making him out to be someone of importance within the industry who failed and thinks he knows better than agents.

Sixth biggest influencer??? The only way he influences me is that I look at what he does/did and ensure I don’t follow his actions!

Who is this Quirk bloke anyway? Ive been in real estate over 20 years and never heard of him before I subscribed to PIE. He must work at another level in the industry and probably has a good PR agent. Certainly not a chartered surveyor as far as I know.

      Simon,

      Glad you found it interesting.

Maybe take RQ out for a steak dinner and romance him a bit more. What possibly could you find interesting about it?

Unless you are interested in the life and times of RQ seen through rose tinted glasses its a fluff piece.

The gushing Jonny has for RQ is sickening, All i can say is cant of been that nice a place to work as he was out of there within 18 months.

Yes i sound like a Orrible old man, but Quirk is poison to our industry just like the Bruce brothers. Agents thinking any different deserve to go out of business.

The best way of getting rid of this joker off our screens is for all of us (me, included) is to totally resist making any comment whatsoever. Its the elixir of publicity which drives this boy – turn that fountain off and maybe he’ll go away, or, at the very least turn to his true vocation of selling double glazing.

Love that every comment on here (apart from Simon) is ranting about RQ and his coverage- but you lot keep reading it, watching it and commenting on it. I personally find RQ’s journey fascinating with plenty to be learned- if not directly how to ‘do agency’. Weirdly, if I don’t like something, I don’t tend to engage in it. #JustSaying
