Winkworth appoints new franchisee

Emmanuel Sarpong

Winkworth has appointed Emmanuel Sarpong as the new franchisee of its Bow office in east London, following a six-year career with the estate agency.

Sarpong, who grew up locally, takes over the business following a phased handover from the previous franchisee.

His appointment marks a significant career progression, having joined Winkworth as a negotiator before moving into lettings management and subsequently overseeing both sales and lettings.

Before joining the agency, Sarpong studied at the University of Greenwich and worked as a surveyor, during which time Winkworth was one of his clients.

He said: “I grew up on a Bow council estate just five minutes from the Winkworth office and my family home is still nearby. I’ve experienced the local area, from being a child playing in Victoria Park to a working professional, giving me great insights to share with those renting and buying homes in the locality.”

Sarpong said taking ownership of the franchise was particularly significant as no one in his family had previously owned a business.

“Putting on the director’s hat to motivate and inspire the team is a responsibility that I cherish and I’m thrilled for this challenge,” he added.

The appointment comes as Bow continues to attract a broad mix of buyers and tenants, including students, graduates and young professionals seeking access to central London and Canary Wharf.

Sarpong said the area’s demographic had changed considerably over the past two decades, with established East End communities now living alongside a growing younger population.

“Bow has changed a lot over the past 20 years. We have a wonderful cross section of the older East End generation and an influx of students, graduates and young professionals,” he said.

Dominic Agace, chief executive of Winkworth, commented: “I am so pleased to welcome him as franchisee of Winkworth’s Bow office and confident that he will lead the team in maintaining Winkworth’s excellent reputation in the East End.”
