Blackbear has acquired Neath-based Welvan Estate Agents, taking its branch network to seven less than two and a half years after launching.

The Welsh estate agency, whose business partners include Scarlets and Wales rugby international Gareth Davies, has expanded into Neath through its latest acquisition.

The deal coincides with Welvan’s 25th anniversary and adds an established sales and lettings business to Blackbear’s growing operation.

Welvan’s Ceri and Howard will remain with the business, alongside the existing team. The company has not disclosed the financial terms of the acquisition.

Blackbear launched in Pembrokeshire and has since expanded through branch openings and acquisitions. Its network now covers parts of Pembrokeshire, Swansea, the Vale of Glamorgan and Neath.

The latest deal also marks a return to familiar territory for two Blackbear directors who grew up in Neath.

Blackbear director Simon said: “Welvan has spent 25 years building a trusted name in Neath. That reputation, and the people behind it, are what made this such an attractive opportunity for us.

“Having Ceri, Howard and the whole team staying on is a huge part of this. We want to build on what they have achieved, combining their knowledge of the town with Blackbear’s brand, marketing and growing branch network.

“Two of our directors were born and bred in Neath, so there’s a real personal connection here too. Although Blackbear started in Pembrokeshire, this feels like coming home.”

Davies, who continues to play professional rugby for the Scarlets, said the company intends to pursue further growth.

“To reach seven branches in less than two and a half years is something we’re very proud of. We’re now competing across a growing part of Wales with agencies that have been established for decades.

“Our ambition is to build a leading Welsh estate agency, with people who know their communities at the heart of it. Neath is an important part of that ambition, and we’re delighted to be taking this next step with the Welvan team.”
