The Romans Group has acquired a second agency in the cathedral city of Guildford.

It has bought Handovers one year after its acquisition of Meldrum Salter Edgley.

Expanding its territory coverage has been high on the agenda for Romans, with a number of acquisitions already under its belt since 2013 and a £30m facility for more business purchases.

Handovers was founded by Philip Stuart, who stays on for a month to help with the transition.

Established in 1987, the Romans Group now has 27 sales and lettings branches across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Middlesex, Oxfordshire and Surrey, with a major purchase strongly rumoured to be in the offing.

In March, Romans merged with Leaders to form Property Services Holdings, which has a combined UK network of over 140 branches.

Peter Fuller, merger and acquisitions director at Romans, said: “With our extensive acquisition experience in south east England, capacity and financing facility, we are ready and able to consider any acquisition opportunity and plan to accelerate our rate of growth this year and in the years to come.”

EYE has asked about the rumoured large purchase in the pipeline. We believe this has yet to be completed and may involve a large agency in the southern home counties, stretching into London, and involving more than one brand.
