Estate agents (and journalists) rejoice!

We have a new contender in the least trusted stakes.

Only 17% of the British public trust pollsters – perhaps not too surprising given the results of the General Election.

Politicians are the least trusted (only 10% of people trust them), only just below journalists (11%), while estate agents are third from the bottom with 15%.

That theoretically means that the editor of Eye is seen as less trustworthy than our readers – but basically, we’re all in this together.

And shouldn’t we feel sorry for Kevin Hollingrake of Hunters, the newly elected MP who manages to be both a politician and an estate agent and who therefore can’t possibly win in the trust stakes?

Pollsters are now less trusted than bankers (18%).

The most trusted professions are doctors (84%), teachers (80%) and police (62%).

The poll of 2,010 British adults was carried out by political lobbyists PLMR and ComRes.

Kevin Craig, managing director of PLMR, said: “After the general election result, it’s fair to say the stock of pollsters has fallen and that they haven’t enjoyed a huge amount of public support.”

Hmmm … but isn’t there a certain irony in an ill-trusted pollster carrying out a poll as to what the public think of pollsters?
