Northwood franchise business snaps up high street competitor

The buying spree by franchisees continues, with the acquisition of a rival by Northwood Chester.

It has bought Humphreys of Chester from SDL Group.

Humphreys of Chester was originally established in 1994, and employs 14 people. It will continue to trade under its own brand.

Jim and Helen Cameron co-own Northwood Chester while daughter Katie is operations manager.

The purchase price paid by Northwood, part of the Belvoir group, has not been disclosed.

Northwood managing director Phil Gee said it was one of the most exciting acquisitions made by Northwood, adding 266 managed properties plus a strong pipeline.

Praising the Camerons as strong ambassadors for the Northwood brand, he said: “Combining these businesses will make them the number one agent in the Chester area.

“It has always been part of Northwood’s strength to look at opportunities to grow our business. This exciting acquisition was only possible thanks to the very strong relationship that we have had for some time with SDL Group which owned Humphreys of Chester.

“Northwood and SDL will continue to work together on a number of property services initiatives.”
