New record set for asking prices, says Rightmove

Average asking prices for properties coming freshly on to the market have hit an all-time high of £255,962, Rightmove said this morning (Monday).

It beats the previous peak of £253,658 set last July by nearly 1%.

Rightmove alaso says that property supply is recovering, with a total of 114,996 new properties listed in the last four weeks, up 3.4% on a month ago, and up 8.7% on March last year.

The portal said that the only regions where there has not been a “substantial” jump in supply are the flood-hit south east and south west. East Anglia has an 8.9% annual increase, but is the only other region where there has been a sub-10% rise in property supply.

Rightmove’s asking price of £255,962 compares with the latest prices from Halifax and Nationwide, at £179,872 and £177,846 respectively.

Interesting reading….as usual, London prices dramatically skew what is going on in the rest of the country, but, judging by the last couple of months, maybe happy days are here again!!
