Latest Land Registry figures showing increase in transactions

Land Registry registration figures suggest there were 93,459 residential sales lodged in August, up 4.4% on July.

The figure is also up 1.1% annually and is the fourth consecutive month that registrations have increased.

There is a time lag between when a sale takes place and when it gets registered, but of the sales received for registration, the Land Registry said 28,423 took place in August.

There were 557 sales of residential properties in England and Wales for £1m and over, with 317 in London, six in the west midlands and four in Greater Manchester.

The most expensive residential sale in August was of a detached property in Camden, London, for £11.4m, while the cheapest was a terrace property in County Durham for £21,000.

The most expensive commercial sale taking place in August 2018 was in Tower Hamlets, London, for £99.75m. The cheapest commercial sale in August 2018 was in High Wycombe, Bucks, for £150.
