How’s lockdown? Oh, it’s going like a bomb…

Charlie Bubear heads up Savills’ Chelsea and Earls Court branches but lives in Beaulieu, Hampshire and he has quite rightly been making the most of his time away from the office while in lockdown.

A bit of light spring cleaning, clearing out the gutters of the family home, seemed an ideal project for him and his wife.

But they hardly expected to discover a live WW1 grenade!

When Alice Bubear found the small, rusted metal object, Charlie took a photograph on his phone and swiftly shared it with some friends in the army who informed him that it was in fact a grenade.

As a result, Charlie quickly rang the police who evacuated the local area surrounding the family home and the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal Squad removed the grenade, which was then securely detonated at sea.

Charlie commented:

“In the current lockdown many of us will likely be getting around to all those cleaning and DIY jobs people love to put off. But I doubt anyone would have expected to stumble across a bomb that has been quietly sitting in their roof for over a hundred years.

“Luckily for us the local police were great at resolving the situation so that no harm came about – it does however make you think twice about what you might find when giving your home a good spring clean.”
