Daytime television is often full of adverts about how online agents can save money on selling a property, but finally a high street agent has got some decent coverage after winning the first episode of the new series of Come Dine With Me.

James Sawyer, of Bury St Edmunds-based Whatley Lane, scooped top marks for his meals on the teatime show that puts dinner party hosts against each other to rank their meals.

Guests including a wedding DJ, American housewife and tennis enthusiast voted him the winner.

James wowed them with a pea and mascarpone soup for starter, fillet steak for mains, and white chocolate and crème brulee dessert, as well as lots of wine. How delicious is that?

Speaking after winning the £1,000 prize, he said: “I have a passion for cooking, enjoy watching the show, entertaining guests and meeting new and interesting people.

“The Channel 4 casting team called the office one day asking if I knew anyone who would be interested in competing, and the rest is history.

“I certainly didn’t expect to pick up the £1,000 cash prize, let alone be selected to go on the programme and make friends along the way.

“Though each contestant was given £125 for food and drink, most of my winnings covered the cost of ingredients and copious wines on the night.”

Freudian slip? “Online agents can save you money when buying a property”.

Yep, absolutely true. A complete and utter absence of proactivity by the online agent will impact on the price achieved. As a result, buyers will secure the property at a lower price than it might have achieved with a good local, proactive agent with a large database of suitable buyers.
