Former BBC presenter Christa Ackroyd has joined a Yorkshire estate agency, fronting property videos more than a decade after leaving broadcasting.
Ackroyd, 69, who previously anchored the BBC’s Look North programme, is producing social media property tours for Hunters in Otley, West Yorkshire.
She told the Daily Mail she has filmed two videos on a freelance basis and hopes to work with more estate agents in future.
“I love houses and renovations and am very passionate about them, so it seemed a perfect fit,” she said. “At 69 years old, I’m thrilled that people may still feel I have something to offer.”
Ackroyd left the BBC in 2013 following an HMRC investigation into her tax arrangements. She later lost a long-running legal dispute over IR35 rules, leaving her liable for up to £420,000 in tax and National Insurance. The tribunal found she had been incorrectly treated as self-employed for tax purposes, but HMRC did not allege dishonesty.
Since leaving the BBC, Ackroyd has written for The Yorkshire Post and appeared in a number of television documentaries and programmes.
Lester Hurst, of Hunters Otley, said: “We have all watched Christa on television for many years. When we discovered her love of houses, we thought it’d be a good idea to do some videos of our most prestigious properties.
“The response has been phenomenal.”
