Countrywide beefs up mortgage business with new acquisition

Countrywide has acquired a finance business, Mortgage Bureau.

With a team of 50 professional consultants and with access to a broad spectrum of the UK’s mortgage market, Mortgage Bureau works alongside national house builders as well as a wide range of estate agents.

The company offers advice on mortgage and related insurance needs, primarily in the land and new homes sector.

Led by directors Mark Clouston and Jamie Barnett, the company is an appointed representative of Mortgage Advice Bureau and generated £0.9bn of mortgage lending in 2015.

Clouston and Barnett, along with their team, will continue in their current roles and further develop Mortgage Bureau.

Clouston said: “Mortgage Bureau has been growing strongly over the past few years and in order to take our business to the next level we needed the support of a larger organisation with wider geographical spread, extended resource and deep industry knowledge.”

The latest acquisition comes after Countrywide announced taking a major stake in another mortgage firm, the Buy to Let Business, last month.
