Average house prices still up 4% on a year ago, insists Halifax

Average house prices were £236,120 last month, the Halifax has reported.

While this was slightly down –by 0.2% – on June, Halifax said this was up 4.1% on an annual basis.

The Halifax house price compares with that of Nationwide, which puts house prices in July at £217,663 and annual house price growth at under 1%.

Both Nationwide and Halifax base their house prices on mortgages agreed, so the circa £19,000 gap between the two has led to raised eyebrows.

The gap between the two pales into insignificance when looking at Rightmove’s latest average asking price for properties new to the market in June/July – £308,692.

They may be in the Halifax areas but not here down sarf. This market is just getting itself ready for a horrible collapse in the early winter. Time to depart for Warmer and more profitable climes.
