Remote control…
I was driving back into London from the east last week, wowed as always by the huge billboards for Barclays, HSBC and more in Canary Wharf, which was still packed despite the late hour.
Coincidentally an article in the Sunday papers alluded to the fact that over two-thirds of those earning over £100,000 annually have problems in their relationship or marriage.
For the last three years, if not more, the property industry has been a very difficult place to work. However as the market shifts into the start of a new cycle there will be some MUCH busier, well-paid people.
Recruitment agents tell me they’re inundated with estate agencies caught short-staffed, so for many older high earners, finding a work/life balance is going to be even tougher.
For over three years I’ve been involved in a company growing via an exclusively home-based workforce. A big challenge personally but one that can promote that elusive work/life balance.
We’ve been lucky enough to have someone well steeped in this culture running the business day to day and she’s written something far more eloquent than I could about its advantages, as well as its disadvantages.
In a business that’s changing, does the ability to give important employees more choice in the way they work have merit and is it the way of the future?

Agents work remotely when they are out canvassing 🙂 that’s as remote it should get.
In my opinion it’s important for people to meet up with others work to help your wellbeing.

Ah but what if you work in an office full of cretins. That’s not good for your wellbeing!

Why do many of those in our industry seem to believe that calling touting “canvassing” somehow makes it a more acceptable practice?
