Ivor Dickinson, one of London’s most high-profile estate agents, has sadly died at the age of 64.
Dickinson, who stepped down as managing director of Douglas & Gordon in 2013, having spent more than 26 years at the company, headed up a team of more than 200 people.
Dickinson, a former Coldstream Guardsman who served in Belfast and Germany, originally joined Douglas & Gordon as a negotiator in the Balham office, becoming MD some ten years later.
The firm, with Dickinson very much involved, was behind the 2011 spoof fly-on-the-wall film, Under Offer, apparently showing estate agents at their worst. See below.
After leaving Douglas & Gordon, he spent seven years working as chief executive of the Lomond Group’s London and South operation.
Ed Mead, who worked with Dickinson for several years at Douglas & Gordon, said: “It’s with regret that we hear of the death last weekend of Estate Agency legend Ivor Dickinson.
“Ivor was best known as the energetic MD of London agent Douglas & Gordon who revolutionised property advertising in the 90s and 00s. Just google “Douglas and Gordon advertising” to see some prime examples.
“Many will remember him as a successful and colourful character who created a business with a service over profit mentality and will be much missed by family, colleagues and friends.”
Such sad news. Ivor was one of the good guys. My condolences to his family and friends.

I met him a handful of times. Charismatic and great fun, and certainly he did an amazing job to make DnG stand out from the crowd in London. Sad news.

Ivor was the boss of one of my first and best CRM and marketing clients, Douglas and Gordon. Dealing with him as a client was terrifying and exhilarating at the same time but he always treated us well. It was such an exciting company to work for under his leadership, I made many lasting friendships. I’ll never forget their Christmas parties when he was at the helm. It was never the same after he left. Very sad to hear of his death. He was one of our industry’s most vibrant and exciting people who actually put customers first.

I knew him from his days in the Coldstream – a proper gent in every way. Shocking news for his family. Condolences to them and all who knew him.

Very sad news. I knew him well when I was running a competitor in London. He still offered me great advice and was always keen to compare notes. Great company and an absolute gentlemen. I will always remember the Archant summer parties at the roof gardens. My sincere condolences to his family.

Such sad news, he was my boss for a while at D&G , whoever above said terrifying and exhilarating got it spot on, so much energy and brilliant marketer.
