Estate agents and letting agents in Walthamstow – the constituency where Stella Creasy is standing to become its MP again – are warned to be on their guard today.
Housing campaigners are planning a mystery shopping exercise on fees.
The email below says it all, so please be prepared. The email is also not correct about estate agents having to disclose their fees. As the story just above this one makes clear, there is no legal requirement for sales agents to advertise their fees – only that if they do, they must display them inclusive of VAT.
This is not the first time that estate agents in the area have found themselves targeted for attention, as Eye reported in February.

Subject: Come mystery shopping with us this Monday
Hello there,
As you may know a team of us contacted every estate and letting agent in E17 asking them to disclose their fees.
Under new legislation, they are soon to be legally obliged to display them transparently both in their premises and on other websites.
Many have yet to respond to our email request for their fees to tenants and customers …. Join us next week as we head down to Hoe street to do some “mystery shopping” and see how “transparent” our agents are about fees!
Let us know if you are interested in joining us!
Many thanks,
E17 Housing campaign
Does Ms Creasey own investment property which she rents out?
Possibly now is a good time tyo find out the property portfolios of all prospective MPs? The sort of thing Alan Ward at RLA would be good at I reckon.
Let’s find out who owns what and whether they are fully up to date with declared rental income, prescribed information and the like.
