Zoopla introduces new ‘get to know the neighbourhood’ reports

Zoopla has introduced a new feature on its site, called “Get to know the neighbourhood”.

Provided by Property Detective, it has an introductory price of £9.99, discounted from £17.99.

It provides school ratings, crime statistics, amenities and other neighbourhood information, and is offered with each listing.

One agent told EYE that it was a way for Zoopla to monetise estate agents’ listings.

However, the Zoopla service is much cheaper, even at the undiscounted price, than going through the Property Detective site – although the offerings may differ.

The Property Detective site has some free features, but a full report has to be bought, either at £39.99 for unlimited properties over a three-month period, or at £30 for a one-off report.

Here is a sample report

Zoopla’s latest innovation comes after its announcement of the impending relaunch of PrimeLocation.

I always used to tell buyers new to an area to return the same street around 6pm of an evening to see what the neighbours were like.

This could cut out the need for property brochures, considering that the photos, floor plan and write up is all on this report.

Does the agent have to pay for the report if they wish to print the it out to give to prospective buyers/tenants?

Hi Paul H – hope life’s good, matey!

The ‘report’ is available as a download on the Z website.  Clearly they are hoping to flog a few to unsuspecting folk in the same way they did those dreadful (and equally not-fit-for-purpose)  ‘Property Valuation Reports’ a year or so ago.

Just another bite at the hand that feeds them…

        Morning Peebee.

I see. But I assume that the agent will get some benefit to this such as a free download to give to clients or a cut of the report fee?

I quite agree with the agent who commented to Eye that this was a Zoopla way of monetising agents content. The property summary with a report under is a blatant use of third party data and looks like the start of marketing brochures, don’t let a faceless marketeer use your data against you. The buyers need to talk to the agent, not an online auto report. You have no control and people are quick to jump to conclusions and these reports may scare off a potential lead. There is no such thing as a perfect house, there is always compromise, don’t let a report generated by Zoopla colour a buyers judgement. They move another step closer to becoming an online agent…Vote Pexit (Portal exit)…leave all stock market listed portals and support OTM where you control and own the data before it is too late.

    Rant over

Maybe we should unite and become the Boris/Farage of the property portal world!
