Would you like a mortgage with that? New app to help first-time buyers save each time they spend

A new app is set to launch that will help first-time buyers save for a mortgage deposit.

Homewards operates a cashback scheme with money going towards a Lifetime ISA that lets users save money tax-free and access the funds when it comes to purchasing a property.

The app is yet to launch and is currently inviting new users.

Once launched, users will be able to link their debit or credit card to the app and will earn automatic cash rewards from certain retailers such as Boots, Café Nero, Pret, Waitrose and ASOS.

Family members, partners and friends can also link their cards and help contribute towards the deposit.

Benjamin Milsom, co-founder of Homewards, said: “When trying to save for a deposit on a first home, many people feel guilty about spending money, and their lifestyles can suffer as they have to cut back significantly.

“Homewards – launching later this year – aims to turn their app members’ spending into additional savings. They’ll automatically earn cashback that goes into a Lifetime ISA when they spend with everyday retailers using their existing debit and credit cards.

“To boost a home deposit further and to reach their goal faster, family members and partners can contribute their cashback to one account.

“Once members have reached their goal they can withdraw the funds, which will then be paid directly to their solicitor when a property is purchased.”
