Michael Joyce, former senior managing partner of West Country estate agents and auctioneers, Cooper and Tanner, has passed away following a short illness.

Joyce died at the Bath RUH on Monday 27th December, surrounded by his family.

Quintyn Howard-Evans, senior managing partner of Cooper and Tanner, said: “The coming year would have marked Michael’s 50th anniversary with the firm, in itself a remarkable achievement. Michael was a hugely respected land agent and livestock auctioneer whose expertise and experience was unrivalled in the region.

He continued: “Michael played a central role in the ongoing growth and vitality of our firm, being at all times an astute, fair and inspiring leader to his fellow partners and all employees of the firm. On retiring from the partnership, Michael remained with us as a senior consultant, with his renowned levels of client service and expansive knowledge making him the ‘go to’ person for a vast range of agricultural projects and topics.

“All who worked with Michael, both directly and indirectly, benefitted from both his wisdom and gentlemanly conduct. Cooper and Tanner benefits from a ‘family’ atmosphere, particularly in comparison to other firms. The working environment that those of us who work here enjoy is a direct result of Michael’s influence, hard work and attention to detail in helping to create the firm that we know as Cooper and Tanner.

“Thank you, Michael, for all that you did and the example that you gave. Those of us that had the privilege of working with you over the past fifty years will miss you very much indeed.”

Joyce leaves a widow, Allyson, two daughters Lucy and Jessica and a granddaughter, Daisy.
