Unsurprisingly ‘there is no real change for our industry under the new tier restrictions’

Boris Johnson announced this week that the three-tiered regional measures will return from 2 December, and while each tier will be toughened, the property market will not be directly impacted, according to Paul Offley, compliance officer at The Guild of Property Professionals.

Regions will not find out which tier they are in until tomorrow, with the allocation of tiers dependent on a number of factors, including each area’s case numbers, the reproduction rate – or R number – and the existing and projected pressure on the NHS locally.

Tier allocations will be reviewed every two weeks, and the regional approach will last until March.

Clarification on restrictions in tiers across England from 2nd December 2020 – here is a summary:

+ Exemption across all tiers for home moving activities

+ Travel permitted across tiers for home moving activities

+ Agencies can remain open

Offley said: “As expected there is no real change for our industry under the new tier restrictions.

“Agents have been working hard for many months to ensure that they can continue to provide a professional service to sellers, buyers, landlords and tenants in a fully Covid-secure way and we are delighted that this has been recognised in the latest tier restrictions to allow the home moving process to continue.”
