Estate agents are showing their support for the current National Apprenticeship Week.
The government initiative, which runs until Sunday, “celebrates the impact of apprenticeships on individuals, employers and the economy”, according to its website.
Connells Group, which launched its apprenticeship scheme seven years ago, hires 200 apprentices across its 600-strong branch network.
Last year it also launched a new head office programme enabling 100 existing staff to train in leadership and management while continuing in their respective roles.
Pauline Chidgey, head of talent acquisition at Connells, said National Apprenticeship Week was a chance to recognise the “brilliant opportunity” that the schemes present. “There is no limit to how high and far an apprentice can go,” she said.
Leaders Roman Group said it has awarded 63 apprenticeships in the last 12 months in addition to 123 ongoing placements.
Both agents say they plan to boost the number of apprenticeship positions they offer during the course of this year.
There are four levels of apprenticeship available ranging from intermediate to degree level and the schemes take between one and five years to complete.
Not wishing to be too negative in respect of apprenticeship schemes (indeed I believe there is great merit in such schemes, in certain circumstances), but in such volume, and particularly with the two firms mentioned… it does feel ever so slightly like filling roles ”on the cheap”.
