SpareRoom has launched a new podcast featuring celebrities and sports personalities discussing the homes that have shaped their lives.
Home Again launches today, 29 September, with a first-season line-up including Stacey Dooley, Matt Edmondson, comedian and actor Guz Khan, and international rugby player Meg Jones.
Rather than focusing on house prices, rents and affordability, the podcast explores people’s emotional relationship with where they live.
Each guest chooses three homes that have played a significant role in their life. They then discuss how those places influenced their experiences and careers.
Among the stories, documentary maker Dooley discusses finding her long-term home after staying in homes around the world through her work.
Khan recalls buying his family home from a neighbour and subsequently discovering something unexpected beneath the floorboards.
Meanwhile, Edmondson discusses his experiences of flatsharing, while Jones talks about using her home for entertaining.
SpareRoom turns attention from housing to ‘home’
The podcast is co-hosted by Matt Hutchinson, who has represented SpareRoom for more than 20 years, and the company’s social media specialist Ella Chisholm.
Hutchinson said: “Home is the most important thing in our lives. Where we live, and who we live with, profoundly affect how we feel about ourselves.
“Yet so many of the conversations we have as a nation about housing end up feeling like they’re really about affordable people storage and we forget to talk about home.
“So we wanted to explore and celebrate what ‘home’ really means to people and how where we live shapes us and becomes part of who we are.”
Chisholm added: “Home as a concept is something we can all relate to, but everyone’s interpretation is so personal. That’s what makes this podcast so interesting.
“The conversations it has inspired have been heartfelt, comforting, nostalgic, and also very honest. Perhaps because it’s at home where we’re our truest selves.”
The first season comprises 12 episodes, with a new episode released every Tuesday across major podcast platforms.
