Small independents triumph at the ESTAS

A record 700 people packed into London’s Hilton Hotel on Friday to make it the most successful ESTA bash ever in its 11-year history.

On top form, compere Phil Spencer revealed that his highly successful TV property show Location, Location, Location was to have been named The Great Property Hunt.

However, as filming started, his co-presenter Kirstie Allsopp fluffed the word “hunt”. (James Naughtie, on the Today programme, committed the same spoonerism when introducing Jeremy Hunt as culture secretary.)

On Friday, Spencer managed to race through the large number of announcements and presentations in great style and without losing his audience.

Zoopla was the chief headline sponsor in the best industry event of the year so far.

Countrywide picked up a number of gongs, including best estate and letting agent, but was beaten by three independents in the estate agency ‘grand prix’ awards.

Logic Estates, of Liverpool, picked up the supreme award as best estate agent in the UK, followed by Bassets Fordingbridge and Jacksons Balham.

In the lettings category, Countrywide won gold for the best large chain, followed by Belvoir and Martin & Co.

The three ‘grand prix’ agents were again all independents. Stoneshaw Estates, based in Dagenham, was named best letting agent in the UK, followed by Alexanders, of Aberystwyth, and First 4 Lettings, in Leicester.

Supplier of the year, for the second year running, was Expert Agent, followed by LetAlliance and Agency Express.

The best estate agent in the UK has 483 unsold properties from their 1 Liverpool branch on the main portals!. Surely they can't be the best in the UK if they can't sell their stock in an improved market?. But then again I don't know how bad the market may still be on Merseyside?

    Hi wilko

Just checked RM – they have a total stock "For Sale" of 501 units – of which 38 are SSTC/Under Offer.

That is 7.6% of their register "sold". Mores to the point – NINETY TWO POINT FOUR PERCENT UNSOLD!!

    Ouch!

The WORST Agent in my patch has near as darnit ten percent of their stock 'sold' – and I think that's pretty abysmal…

I'm sure Logic Estates will be along soon to provide justification as to HOW they won the award…

The problem with the estas as an awards, as far I can gather,in my opinion, is that they do not stand up to scrutinisation. Yes, the "customers" vote……but only those who have completed their transactions successfully ….aren't they more likely to be happy as they have had a great outcome? With this Liverpool agent being declared the "Best Agent in the UK" it seems clear that those vendors who are unsatisfied as they have not sold (Cheers Pee Bee for the 92%) have clearly not been asked to comment on how good their agent is………….otherwise the outcome would have been very different.
How can you have select the best agent in the uk when they fail to sell 92% -c500 of their instructions?
It's time for the Estas to stop considering their success on how big the event is(700 people attending the Baquet) or how profitable their event has become and work on their credibility, which appears to be flawed.

I think the estas are pointless, just a way of showing a silly award on your website.

We can ***** all we like about the rights and wrongs of these awards, but one thing will remain constant.
These Mickey Mousers will be winning more instructions off the back of their "title".
Therein lies the value of these "awards".
Some agents are top of their game at selling, some are top at winning listings, there is a difference.

      So, true, Blue.

It's only a pity that those vendors that fall for the self-selling skills of the latter rather than dramatically improving their chances of their HOME selling by listing with the former are the ones that suffer in the long run…
