Savills-sponsored garden to highlight sustainability at Chelsea Flower Show

Savills will once again sponsorship of a show garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show next year, which has been designed to highlight the estate agency’s commitment to promoting sustainable development.

Garden designer Mark Gregory, five-time Chelsea Gold Medal winner, has been commissioned to oversee the project.

Savills said the garden will showcase combined ornamental and edible planting, aiming to provide inspiration for ‘plot-to-plate’ alfresco dining.

The design will include a working kitchen, which Savills claims is a first for the Chelsea Flower Show, and an adjoining dining area where guests will be served meals prepared with ingredients from a potager and walled garden beyond.

Following the show, Savills will work with the Shaw Trust, a national charity running employability programmes and complementary services for people with complex needs, to relocate the garden at Meadow View House in Nottinghamshire for its residents to enjoy.

Additionally, the estate agent will work with existing charity partner Rethink Food, an organisation focused on educating school children on food security, to “share learnings” from the garden.

“We are excited to be returning to Chelsea with a garden design that touches on so many themes that are core to the future success of our industry and gives us the opportunity to bring to life our commitment to promoting sustainable development,” said Richard Rees, Savills managing director.

“I look forward to seeing the garden relocated post-show in conjunction with the Shaw Trust, an organisation committed to challenging inequality and breaking down barriers to enable social mobility.

“We also welcome the opportunity to further develop our employee engagement with Rethink Food, and to exploring with them issues around food production and food miles, sustainability and the learning and sharing of knowledge.”

Garden designer Mark Gregory, founder at Landform Consultants, said he was “incredibly proud” to design the garden for Savills.

“The garden will be a feast both for the eyes and for the palette, demonstrating that productive gardens can be both elegant and delightful,” he added.
