Roger Barrett, Connells Group’s land & new homes managing director, is celebrating an impressive 40 years with the business this month.

Since joining Connells as a sales negotiator in 1983, Barrett has enjoyed a varied and successful career, becoming a land director in 1989, promoted to the Connells residential board in 2008 and taking responsibility for the Group’s land & new homes operation in 2019.

“When I walked into Connells in February 1983 to start my first job, I had no idea at the time what an opportunity it was or where it would take me,” said Barrett.

He continued: “I realised from the outset that Connells is primarily a people business, and if you take every opportunity you are given, then a fantastic career can lie ahead. Fast forward 40 years, and I now oversee the entire land and new homes operation for Connells, Sequence, Countrywide, Hamptons and John D. Wood & Co – that’s quite some progression!”

“Over the years, I have seen numerous changes in the housebuilding sector and have had the privilege of working with countless business partners, many of whom have become good friends. Being part of Connells Group continues to be a great experience and a lot of fun too, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of all the managers, partners and directors of this truly unique business.”

David Plumtree, Connells Group’s chief executive (estate agency), added: “This is an outstanding milestone for Roger and a perfect example of the boundless opportunities for career progression here at Connells Group. Roger has made a huge impact to our business over the years, and we thank him for his continued service and dedication.”
