Rents crack a new record in London and rise throughout UK

Average new rents in London have gone through the £1,500 barrier for the first time, referencing firm Homelet has reported.

The average rent in London during May was £1,506.

New rents rose in all regions of the UK in the three months to May, compared with the same period last year.

Rents agreed on new tenancies were 10.7% higher than the same time last year, with the average now standing at £935 per month (£738 excluding Greater London).

In Greater London, the average new rent was £1,472 for the three months to May, with the figure rising for new tenancies signed in that month.

The largest rises were in the south-west at 13.6%, Scotland at 9.6%, the south-east at 9.4%, and Greater London at 9.2%.
