Rents are at a record high across England and Wales, according to LSL firms Your Move and Reeds Rains.

They said that the average rent stood at £774 in April, including £1,204 in London.

In England and Wales, rents jumped 4.6% year on year last month, growing on a monthly basis by 0.8%. In London, the monthly rise in rents was 2.3%.

Adrian Gill, director of the firms, said: “Rents are going skywards and still accelerating.”

Annual rents in the east of England increased by 12.5% annually. In London they shot up by 7.8%, and rose in Yorkshire & the Humber by 2.2%.

But rents fell in Wales by 2.8% annually and the north-west and north-east of England by 1.4%.
